We love to travel, to live great adventures on the back of our machines, we like to go far, to travel without a fixed destination, to enjoy the road, the landscapes, the gastronomy… and maybe even a night camping.<\/p>\n

But traveling requires carrying luggage and the more days, the more material we will need, but the capacity of the motorcycle is limited.<\/p>\n

The first thing to keep in mind is that we must be realistic. It is not the same to pretend to face a trip on a CBR650R than doing it on an Africa Twin, since the capacity of the two is very different. In any case, we must learn to prioritize and take only what is strictly necessary, dispensing with luxuries (especially if we travel on small bikes). <\/p>\n

On the other hand, we must also keep in mind that it is very important to secure the luggage as well as possible, otherwise it could lead to an accident. For this reason, it will always be more advisable to use rigid panniers that have the corresponding support to avoid that when the motorcycle overturns in a curve they can interfere in the wheel arch. <\/p>\n

When distributing the luggage we must take into account how the weight will affect the handling of our motorcycle. This is why we should always try to keep the weight as close to the motorcycle’s center of gravity and as low as possible. <\/p>\n

This means that we will distribute the weight in the following order:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Passenger seat. If we travel alone it is best to take advantage of this space instead of carrying the weight in the top case (later I will tell you why). <\/li>\n
  2. Side cases. The heaviest items will go in the lowest part of them trying to equalize the weight on both sides. <\/li>\n
  3. Top case. Although it is not the same for all motorcycles, it is recommended not to load weight on the top case (usually indicated on the bracket itself) as it directly affects – and negatively – the handling and stability of the bike, as it is far from the center of gravity of the bike and at a very high point and, sometimes, it is outside the bike, even beyond the axis of the rear wheel. All this causes a geometry change that makes it more difficult to ride and less stable. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    It will also be important to increase the rear shock preload to compensate for the excess weight.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
