There are many ways to enjoy the bike, we can do it alone, with a companion or in groups, more or less large. All the options are good but each one will require a series of skills and precautions so that we can enjoy safely.
We must always bear in mind that the public road belongs to everyone, and that we must respect the other occupants, as well as not lower our guard: motorcyclists are invisible to other vehicles, and also more vulnerable. For this reason, we must always be suspicious and try to anticipate any possible risk situation that may arise.
Moreover, when we circulate as a group:
- In stretches of curbs, fast roads or leaving the city, we can compact the group circulating in a zig-zag, that is to say, we will not place ourselves just in front of the motorcycle in front of us, but we will do it diagonally. In this way we will have more time to react in case we have to brake, we will have more visibility and, at the same time, we will be more visible.
- In the same way, when we overtake other vehicles we can move to the right side of the lane, and thus leave space to facilitate the incorporation of the motorcycle coming behind us.
- In narrower sections, two-way roads where the lanes are not delimited and sections with twists and turns, we will ride in line and always respecting the safety distance with the motorcycle in front of us.
- If the group is very large, it is advisable to separate into smaller groups and regroup, for example, at lunch or dinner time.
- We must always respect the rules of the road and signal maneuvers in advance, so that the person coming ahead knows what our next move will be. It is also important that we respect the safe distance from other vehicles.
- The theory says that the slowest should be at the head of the group, but this is something that is not usually put into practice in real life. In any case, the most advisable is that a person with experience and good reaction capacity is the one who leads the group.
- To avoid anyone getting lost we will always wait for the person who was ahead of us. This will also allow us to react faster in case someone might have a problem.
- It is also a good option to have a whatsapp group with the location of everyone to facilitate the regrouping in case the group gets separated.
- Even though we know the area, it is important not to trust ourselves and, in any case, ride beyond our capabilities or try to force our pace in order to follow the group.
- Knowing the code of motorcycle signals will facilitate communication, especially if we do not have an intercom.
